Zycko: LSI SAS portfolio 'has been proven'

LSI's portfolio of server-attached storage (SAS) solutions has been proven generation after generation, the company asserts.

Senior director of marketing for LSI Steve Fingerhut explains that "the scale, proven interoperability and advanced capabilities of our broad SAS portfolio has established LSI as a SAS market segment leader".

This reputation has built up over successive generations of server technology, he adds, with current changes taking place likely to drive interest in LSI products further in the future.

At present, LSI is positioning itself for the transition to 6 Gbps SAS, a 100 per cent bandwidth increase over the previous 3 Gbps technology.

Earlier in the week, the company announced that it had succeeded in recording a benchmark of more than a million input-output operations per second, or IOPS, using 6 Gbps SAS technology on a single server.

LSI suggested that this could provide greater opportunity for direct-attached storage, or DAS, to be used to complement SAS and permit easy scalability in storage environments with growing capacity demands.
